These Scenes are five episodes drawn from different periods in the life of St. Francis based on Sabatier's great book and Miss Houghton's translation of it.
They include the famous " Sermon of the Birds " and " The Canticle of the Sun." In the opening scene we meet the youthful Francis at a feast given at Assisi surrounded by his wild companions, and we realise the struggle going on in his complex nature between the old life of thoughtless gaiety and his new vision of ascetic mysticism.
