These three scenes tell how the Lady Rosalind, banished from Court, came disguised as a youth to the Forest of Arden, and how she there became involved in an Arcadian romance. In the opening scene, imagine a terraced walk in the Palace garden, where the two cousins, Rosalind and Celia, pace in intimate talk.

He is threatened with arrest and is explaining to the policeman how, many years ago. he first got into trouble in helping a Scottish pal to get away to America.
