Rudolph, in a dressing-gown, and smoking a cigarette, is lounging in an armchair reading The Stage. The Landlady enters and Rudolph speaks to her. SINIGAGLIA, one of the older contemporary Italian composers (he is nearly sixty), is a composer of lively fancy who aroused protests from some rather snobbish fellow-countrymen a few years ago because lie introduced popular songs of the day into his second set of Piedmontese Dances.
This Rhapsody (originally written for Violin and Orchestra) has melodies which, while not actually songs of the people, are cast in the folk style.
