THE music of Sibelius, the representative composer of Finland, is strongly national in spirit, and of none of his work is this more true than of the Tone Poem which bears his native country's name. Composed in 1894, before ho was quite thirty, it is a tone picture of an exile's impressions of home on his return after a long absence.
It has long ago ceased to ba nnrely national music, although it will always be the deep sincerity of its national fcoling by which it will make its strongest appeal.
