Episode 1 takes place in the Hall of the Red Hall on the night of King Charles the First's visit, 1646, when the King was a prisoner in the hands of the Parliamentarians.

Mind Picture: There is great bustle and excitement at the Red Hall, for the captive king, Charles I., is to lodge there tonight. Part of the excitement is due to a plan for the King's escape. In rejecting the offer, he presents a ribbon to Joan Crosby, the servant, for her loyalty.

Episode 2 takes place in the Herb Garden of the Red Hall, 1661. It is summer and Old Jonah is weeding the garden where Prue is gathering herbs. They are anxiously awaiting the return of Joan Crosby from London.

Mind Picture: Joan's husband has been made Bailiff of Yorkshire by Charles II., and in this scene she has just returned to Leeds and is recounting her experiences in London. We take our leave of the company as they are setting out for "The Pack Horse" Inn to celebrate the occasion.
