In this series of talks Captain Ainslie will, at the end of each month, explain the positions of the stars for next month. Listeners to this talk will be well advised to use the stellar chart printed on this page, which applies equally to Oct. 1 at 10 p.m. Greenwich time, Oct. 15 at 9 p.m., Nov. I at 8 p.m., Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. and 60 on, allowing an hour earlier for every fifteen days. The chart should be held so that the point of the horizon that one is facing comes at the bottom ; the stars tha t one sees from horizon to zenith will then be seen on the map between the bottom and the centre.

Bailey , well known to listencrs for his stories of the sea, was in charge of her, and in this talk he will tell how he handled her, in heavy seas, with a skeleton crew.

WARD, ‘ The Post-War Brotherhood ' THE Post-War Brotherhood, which was founded at Portsmouth in 1022, is a most- interesting layiman's movement for comradeship, fellowship, and individual and communal service. It is entirely non-party and unseetarian. Its great feature is the Sunday afternoon meeting, at which speakers of the front rant in every department of social activity address its members and answer their questions, the series of meetings thus covering every aspect of life as we live it today. Mr. Ward, the founder of the movement, will explain its aims and ideals.

WHEN evolution is being discussed, the geologist is sure to be called in at a very early stage. The story of the earth is written in the strata of the rocks for the trained eye to read it, and there is no more fascinating story in the world. Professor Swinnerton is now primarily a geologist-he holds the Chair of Geology and Geography at Nottingham University-but he is also a distinguished palaeontologist, and in this series of talks he will deal with the fossils found in the rocks, and the record of life that they contain, as wt:ll as with the rocks themselves.
