An appeal on behalf of THE ABERDEEN ASSOCIATION FOR IMPROVING THE CONDITION OF THE POOR by J. EVERARD RAE, Chairman of the Board of Directors
During the year 8,571 men, women, and children were given assistance. There were given 41,646 breakfast and dinner tickets for free meals ; gifts of bread, fish, and meat for 1,310 families ; 76 Christmas dinners from anonymous donors ; Easter eggs for 750 children ; fruit and toys (from a Christmas tree) for 500 children; and three dozen white walking-sticks for blind persons. The Association, which is non-political and non-sectarian, deals with all cases requiring immediate temporary assistance. It can be truthfully said that very seldom does an applicant leave disheartened. The statistics of last year's work tell an interesting story, which includes clothing the ragged, feeding the hungry, filling empty cupboards and fireplaces, providing lodgings for the homeless, ministering to the sick, and caring for the aged and infirm.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged, and should be addressed to James Farquharson , Esq., Secretary, [address removed]
