Mrs. Freeman has been very busy with her new duties as mayoress of Parkwood Hill. Mrs. Dale had a visit from a National Insurance Inspector, who told her that Monument had not been keeping his insurance card stamped. Mrs. Dale had given him the money for his stamp every week but she was told that the actual stamping of the card was her responsibility, and as it had not been done, she had to pay the money all over again. She sold an amethyst brooch to replace what she lost over this. Mrs. Maggs found out that Dotty was staying with Ruby Lillywhite at Picket Piece, and went down there to see her. Dotty said she was going to stay where she was, for the sake of Renee's happiness.
