and The Owens had lunch with the Dales and Mr. Owen told Mrs. Dale he still could not agree to Jenny marrying Bob.
Monument admitted that he had doubts about his forthcoming marriage to Mrs. Meadows. Edward Fielding failed to raise the money for the Nursing Home because of Dr. Dale's connection with Alec. Dr. Dale had a letter from Sir Bernard offering to act as Alec's counsel; Alec's son, Carlton, turned up at Virginia Lodge, asking for his father. Mrs. Dale discovered that Bob was working at a radio shop so that he could buy a ring for Jenny's birthday and she offered to lend him some of the money.

Doc and Lemmy managed to escape from the Martian city of Lacus Solis in the sphere in which they had been carried off by the so-called ' flying doctor.' Together with Mitch, Dobson, and Harding, who were also in the sphere, Doc set the ship on course for-the Argyre Desert where he hoped to pick up Jet who was still somewhere out in the pink wasteland with the land fleet. At last Jet's truck was sighted and Doc landed the sphere alongside it, only to find that the truck was empty and Jet was gone.
