Undoubtedly one of the most starry children's dramas of recent years (it features voiceovers from Simon Callow, Rik Mayall, Jason Connery and Alan Cumming), this is also one of the most magical. Think The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe meets The Lord of the Rings and Toy Story, and you'll get the picture. It stars Vivien Endicott Douglas as Mamie, who on her 11th birthday finds a battered old shoebox containing four beautifully carved animals. Playing with them later, they suddenly spring to life. If you miss this episode today, don't worry. It's being shown tomorrow at 4.35pm, and again at teatime on Sunday, both on BBC1 (Jane Rackham)
