The London leg of the massive initiative designed to raise awareness of global poverty reads like a Who's Who of pop royalty. Representing the more mature end of the musical spectrum in front of the 150,000-strong crowd will be the likes of Annie Lennox, Bob Geldof, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Madonna, Pink Floyd, Mariah Carey, Sting, REM, U2 and UB40.
They will be appearing alongside relatively newer names Coldplay, Dido, Joss Stone, Keane, the Killers, Robbie Williams, Ms Dynamite, Razorlight, Snow Patrol, Scissor Sisters, Stereophonics, Travis and Velvet Revolver. Presented by Jonathan Ross, while Jo Whiley and Fearne Cotton venture backstage to chat to some of the musicians.
The American contribution at the Museum of Art in Philadelphia is scarcely less stellar a line-up, with Will Smith introducing Bon Jovi, 50 Cent, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake, the Black Eyed Peas, Jay-Z, P Diddy, Sarah McLachlan, Rob Thomas, Keith Urban and Maroon 5. Adding an English flavour to the proceedings in front of a crowd expected to be in the region of one-and-a-half million will be fast-rising Leeds guitar outfit Kaiser Chiefs.
