This multi-media stage version was produced to mark the 30th anniversary of the album's release and was recorded by Radio 2 on 21 June 2009.

As part of its Space season, Radio 2 marks Friday's 30th anniversary of the release of Jeff Wayne 's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds with a live concert version recorded on 20 June at London's 02 arena. Conducted by Jeff Wayne , the event features The Black Smoke Band, The ULLAdubULLA Strings, with Jennifer Ellison, Moody Blues singer Justin Hayward, musician Chris Thompson and the voice of actor Richard Burton (1925-84).
