Alfred Drake (1914-92) For the first time in this occasional series,
Michael Alexander profiles a male star of the American stage. Alfred Drake acquired overnight star status after the legendary opening night of Oklahoma! in 1943, and went on to create the leading roles in Kiss Me Kate and Kismet. Drake's talents also extended to acting and directing in straight theatre, including a 1964 production of Hamlet. Producer Anthony Wills
