Michael Jackson begins his British concert appearances this week. Just what makes him tick? How much of a gulf is there between the myth and the man? Scratching the surface of this enigmatic superstar proves difficult; even his recent autobiography reveals little.
Radio 1 attempts to delve further, with the help of his manager, Frank M. Dileo, and his record producer, Quincy Jones.

[Article] The shy superstar
As a sold-out Wembley awaits the appearance of the reclusive Peter Pan of pop, the shy enigma behind the charismatic stage presence is put into focus in Michael-on-Stage (Saturday 6.30).
His manager Frank Dileo (who once said: 'Michael is part Howard Hughes and part ET') and his record producer Quincy Jones will be among those assessing 'wacko Jacko'. Pop music's number one superstar travels with his pet chimp (to whom he has left $5 million in his will) and is said to sleep in an oxygen tent to preserve his youth.
