Sid's mind isn't on his work at the Bull. Jolene finally takes him aside to speak to him. He's worried his interview with the police went badly, and he made things worse for Kathy, sounding like a jealous ex-husband. Fallon and Jolene discuss Fallon's plan to give Ed a fantastic birthday present. They decide Fallon needs to lure him back to the Bull if she wants to get him on his own. 

Emma is regaling Calum with Ambridge gossip. Calum thinks it sounds an exciting place - he'd love to go for a drink there at the weekend but Emma says he'd find it boring. Will phones as George won't eat his dinner. Calum hears Emma mentioning someone called George, but she says he's just a maintenance man. 

Brian's being unusually nice to Adam, and Adam's suspicious. When the rain stops him drilling a field, Adam heads to the Bull for lunch. Brian eventually finds him there and talks about taking Jennifer away. Adam's pleased until he realises that Brian plans to send Ruairi to stay with his grandmother, rather than to Honeysuckle Cottage. Brian insists this is the logical solution, but Adam tells Brian not to insult his intelligence.

The world's population predicted to grow to 9 billion people by 2050. Tom Heap asks whether this is the one environmental issue we should be concentrating on above all others.

The world’s population has doubled to 6.5 billion over the past century. It will increase to 9 billion by the year 2050. Costing the Earth poses a sceptical question: Is population growth ruining the planet?

The governments chief scientific adviser, Sir David King, lays out the problem: in the 20th century life expectancy increased from 45 years to 75 years; global population increased by one billion people every 12 years. We need to plan for 9.5 billion people who will be aspiring to the same standards as the Northern Hemisphere and using the same amount of energy. 

Tim Jackson, a professor of sustainable development from the University of Surrey who also advises the government. But his guidance on population has led to little action. Professor Jackson argues that unless action is taken on population, drastic lifestyle changes need to happen – reducing every person’s carbon emissions from 11 tonnes a year to half a tonne.

The Optimum Population Trust believes that the only solution is to gradually decrease the global population by .25% a year. Rosamund MacDougall told us that migration should also be limited in order to bring down UK population down to half its current levels.

We hear from India where a family planning policy is being implemented to try and control the rising population there –on course to overtake China as the most populated country in the world. But could such pressure work elsewhere? Or will technology provide the answer to a rapidly increasing global population?

Fallon hopes to pick the fruits of her labour.

David and Ruth are helping with the grape picking at Lower Loxley. Ruth wants to talk about her appointment at the hospital, but David tries to avoid the subject, and takes advantage of Kenton arriving on the scene  by asking for a lift home, much to Ruth's despair. In the car, David reveals to Kenton his worries about Ruth's real motive for having the reconstruction. Kenton presses David to talk to Ruth.

Fallon arrives at the grape picking, to wish Ed a happy birthday. Ed's surprised when Fallon reveals she's got a present for him. He needs to come to the Bull to get it, but he tells her he's already meeting the boys for drinks there at six, so he'll see her anyway. Later, when Fallon gives him his present he's really pleased and so desperate to show Tom that Fallon loses her chance to 'talk' to him. 

Kathy's finding it hard to be at work. She thinks that once Nigel and Elizabeth find out about Owen/Gareth Taylor, they won't believe her side of the story. Kenton tries to calm her down, but she gets more worked up, thinking that once Taylor finds out she's made an accusation, what's to stop him coming to find her?
