1/4. Another chance to hear four stories by John Mortimer featuring Horace Rumpole , barrister-at-law Despite scurrilous rumours to the contrary, Rumpole proves to his colleagues and clients, and to his wife, Hilda, that he has certainly not yet set forth on the primrose path to the eternal bonfire. He's very much alive and well, and as adept as ever at getting to the heart of a crime. Rumpole exposes criminal practices at the nursing home where he was sent to recuperate after a heart attack, leaving him in dire need of claret, cheroots and good company.
Director Marilyn Imrie

Maurice R Hilleman , who died in April last year, saved more lives than any other scientist in the 20th century. However, given his extraordinary achievements he is surprisingly little-known outside his field. He is the only scientist ever to have made a flu vaccine in advance of a pandemic, a task scientists are now struggling to achieve in the face of bird flu; and the only person in history to use human blood to make a vaccine. But one of his creations, the combined MMR shot, remains controversial in the UK to this day. His daughter Jeryl Lynn Hilleman tells his incredible Story. Producer Pauline Moffatt
