Can Larry secure a new show for Julia Louis-Dreyfus? A mutilated doll holds the answer.
Sitcom: Curb Your Enthusiasm 10.30pm BBC4
Surely there are no excruciatingly embarrassing social situations left to hurl at hapless curmudgeon Larry David? Surely the well of awfulness has run dry? Don't bet on it. Larry David creates his own horrors, it's in his nature, which is what makes this reality sitcom the funniest thing on television for years. Tonight, would you believe, he helps a little girt cut her favourite doll's hair. He thinks it's tacitly "understood" by the doll's owner that the hair will not grow back. The little girl, however, has other ideas.
This inevitably rolls into a great big ball of catastrophe. The child must be appeased as she's the pampered daughter of the TV network chief who's producing Larry's new sitcom with his former Seinfeld cohort, Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Throw in a toilet with no lock, Larry's dehydration, the screening of a terrible mini-series and an accidental encounter with manager Jeffs rampantly foul-mouthed wife Susie, and the jaws of social hell beckon. (Alison Graham)
The tale of a grief-stricken girl is told in Ho Yim 's romantic drama from 1997. In Cantonese with English subtitles.
