Electronic music expert Mark Jones hosts the third in his series of shows exploring the origins of synth pop. This week he's joined by Rusty Egan, a founding member of 80s electro group Visage. Best known for their top ten hit Fade To Grey In 1980, Visage were a key part of the early synth pop movement which went on to spawn bands including Ultravox and Magazine. Rusty plays the music that inspired him during this era and talks to Mark about working with Steve Strange, Midge Ure, and promoting the famous Blitz club in London which spawned the new romantic scene. There's also another trip to the dancefloor in Mark's Mutant Mash Up and tunes from Simple Minds, Duran Duran and Kraftwerk.

Tom chats to Matt Black, DJ and co-founder of electronic indie label Ninja Tune, plus he plays session tracks from electro band Kyte.

Tom chats to Matt Black, DJ and co-creator of electronic indie label Ninja Tune.  Together with fellow DJ Jonathan More the duo are better known as Coldcut and they kicked off their label in 1993 embracing electronic, alternative hip hop, instrumental hip hop, nu jazz, drum and bass, and chillout music.  On the show tonight Matt discusses what he looks for in a new signee and provides some crucial tips for bands trying to make it in the competitive music landscape.

Plus, session tracks by ambient electro band, Kyte, recorded exclusively for Tom Robinson at Manchester's alternative music industry gathering, Un-Convention.

Chris Hawkins presents Ride recorded live at London's Town and Country Club in 1991. This performance features tracks from their first album Nowhere.

Ride formed in the late 1980s in Oxford. By the beginning of 1990 they were playing in local clubs to audiences of around 200 to promoting their debut EP.
Refusing to release conventional singles, preferring only to put out four-track EPs Ride, Play, Fall and Today Forever. Their debut album 'Nowhere', not only proved to be a best seller but also gained them the 'Best Album' award in the 1990 Melody Maker readers poll.
This performance, recorded at London's Town and Country Club, includes key songs from the Ride EP's and  tracks from their first album, Nowhere.
