A poet goes to Paris and has an affair with a courtesan of an underground club.

When an idealistic poet is drawn into the dark and fantastical underworld of the Parisian nightclub the Moulin Rouge, he finds a seedy, glamorous haven of sex, drugs and electricity. He also finds himself plunged into a passionate love affair with the club's star, who is also the city's most famous courtesan, in this tragic love story from filmmaker Baz Luhrmann.
