Just days after the cruel murder of Bennet Drake, and despite being outlaws, his old friends Edmund Reid, Homer Jackson and Long Susan are drawn together to avenge his death. But there is one problem - they themselves are now hunted by the police. 

With Reid on the wrong side of the law, assistant commissioner Augustus Dove has hired a notorious enemy from his past - Jedediah Shine - to take charge of Leman Street police station. But Shine has come back hellbent on vengeance against his former rival.
