The event has come a long way since American Dick Beardsley and Norwegian Inge Simonsen won the inaugural men's elite race in a dead-heat, while Joyce Smith claimed the women's elite crown. Discover who followed in their footsteps to become the 2010 champions. 

In 2009, the ever-enthusiastic fun runners raised an incredible 47.2 million pounds for charity, the largest figure to date. A total of 35,306 competitors crossed the finish line, resulting in 918,000 miles covered by the 2009 field.
