The film spans the years from Holly's humble beginnings in smalltown America, where his music was frowned upon, to his meteoric rise to worldwide fame and his tragic death in an aeroplane along with Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. Gary Busey received an Oscar nomination for his performance.
