Samuel Ash investigates why children of Deaf adults (CODAs) are still being used as interpreters for their parents in emergencies and sensitive situations. He chats with Annie and Sue about the loss of their father/husband and how, because an interpreter wasn’t provided, Annie had to interpret for her father when he received the news that he had an aggressive form of cancer that was terminal.
Samuel learns from CODA UK and Ireland about the psychological impact of CODAs having to interpret for their parents and hears from the NHS and Sheffield Hospital Trust about what steps they are taking to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.
