Love in the Countryside

Series 2

Episode 2

Duration: 59 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC Two EnglandLatest broadcast: on BBC Two Wales HD

In the second episode Sara heads to the remote fells of Cumbria to deliver a pile of love letters to 58-year-old sheep dog trainer Katy, who is nervous about dating. Though she has been married four times, Katy has not had a proper relationship in over ten years and, although she loves her life in her 17th-century farm house, rural isolation has made meeting someone challenging. Katy often goes days with only her dogs and 16-year-old daughter Henrietta for company, but with Henrietta soon flying the nest for university, Katy feels it is the right time to look for a romantic partner to share her rural life with.

Meanwhile, it is decision time for dairy farmers Martin and Grace, who have each invited three potential suitors back to their farms. Both are looking for a partner that will fall in love with not only them but also their rural lifestyle, and are hoping sparks will fly with at least one of their guests during their weekend stay.

On Grace’s farm on the Welsh-Shropshire border, Royal Mail manager Greg has so far been leading the competition for Grace’s heart. But following a testing morning of physical labour repairing fences, Grace is left wondering if postie Greg and trainee psychologist Martin’s lack of farming experience would make a relationship with them challenging.

In Yorkshire, dairy farmer Martin is also faced with a dilemma. He hasn’t had a relationship in over a decade and now he has two potential suitors vying for his affections. It is day two of their weekend stay on his farm and the 44-year-old is torn between townie teacher Laura Lea and country girl Hermione. Laura Lea has a lifelong dream to live in the countryside, while Hermione understands how important it is for Martin to be able to hand the farm down to future generations. Following a flirtatious encounter with Laura Lea in the milking parlour and a private tractor lesson with Hermione, Martin’s decision seems harder than ever. Show less
