Laugh with Hope: Road to Singapore

on BBC One London

A series of feature films starring Bob Hope
with Bing Crosby, Dorothy Lamour
and Charles Coburn

This is the first of the famous 'Road' pictures, in which Paramount teamed, for the first time, Bing Crosby and Bob Hope.
Hollywood folk-lore has it that the 'Road' films started on a golf course. Bing and Bob had already become golfing companions, and one day they made up a foursome with Victor Schertzinger, famous Hollywood director and composer, and Paramount producer Harlan Thompson. It didn't take long for the actors to excite Scherzinger and Thompson with their humour. A series of impromptu gags by Bing and Bob, which brought plenty of laughter, led Schertzinger to exclaim... 'What a team they'd make in pictures' The rest is history.
