The first in a series of programmes featuring major jazz artists including Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Big Joe Turner and Erroll Garner. This restored footage was originally shown in 1964, when BBC2 was first launched and transmitted on 625 lines. Tonight's programme is introduced by jazz fan Neneh Cherry and features Dizzy Gillespie.
