The tragic story of the geisha girl, Butterfly, who is loved, married and deserted by Lieutenant B.F. Pinkerton of the American Navy.
It is one of Puccini's best-loved operas; the 'Humming chorus' and 'One fine day' are just two of many highlights. This highly acclaimed new production from La Scala is predominantly Oriental.
The Japanese producer, KEITA ASARI , has not only cast two of Japan's lending singers in the roles of Butterfly and her maid Suzuki, but has also collaborated with Japanese specialists in costume and design.
