Adapted for television in thirteen parts by P.D. Cummins.
Pip gradually forgets his terrifying adventure on the Marshes. A day comes when Mrs. Joe is convinced his fortune is made: he is taken by Uncle Pumblechook to Satis House to play with Estella, the adopted daughter of rich, eccentric Miss Havisham. Beautiful little Estella is cruel to him; she makes him feel coarse and common, but he cannot stop loving her. He grows discontented with his lot, and even finds himself criticising Joe.
