Dog-owners choose a pet that reflects an image of themselves.
They may even choose one in which the reflection lies in a physical resemblance between human and animal. More usually, though, it is a statement of where they feel they belong, or aspire to belong, in society.
As this fourth programme in the series that explores humans' relationship with the dog reveals, the choice is subtly buried in matters of etiquette and class.
