R. A. Butler 1902-1982
' The Uncrowned Prime Minister
Rab Butler held every major Cabinet post in his long political career which he relinquished to become Master of Trinity College. Cambridge, in 1965. Twice he almost became Prime Minister - in 1957 and in 1963- but this always eluded him. Anthony Howard presents a portrait of one of the most influential politicians of the century, with contributions from his widow Lady Butler, his sister Iris Portal, Lord Home, The Rt Hon Enoch Powell , MP, Lord Carrington and The Rt Hon Julian Amery , MP.
