Music International

on BBC Two England

A monthly report from the world of music.
Including:

The Art of Olive Middleton
An extraordinary singer-an extraordinary story-a unique experience
Filmed in New York specially for Music International.

Igor Oistrakh
The famous Russian violinist returns to London next month to appear at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. He also goes on to the Bath Festival and is to sit on the jury of the International Violin Competition at the City of London Festival.
In this report he is seen playing the Bach Chaconne in D minor and with his father David Oistrakh.

Music for a While
The recording of this Purcell song has done much to make the unique art of Alfred Deller more widely appreciated
To the uninitiated, however, it comes as something of a shock to hear the high flute-like voice of the counter-tenor issuing from this tall bearded figure. This month a book by Michael and Mollie Hardwick called A Singularity of Voice is published about him.
Music International features Deller singing excerpts from songs by Dowland, Purcell, and Wilbye, with Desmond Dupre (lute), and the Deller Consort with Walter Bergmann (harpsichord), and includes a contribution from Sir Michael Tippett.

Introduced by Bernard Keeffe.
