with Geordie pop-star Alan Price.
The heroic story of the Tyneside-built warship HMS Kelly and her famous captain. Lord Louis Mountbatten, was celebrated in drama and song when Alan Price, accompanied by his own band and music director, got together with local performers in his home town of Jarrow during the Queen's Jubilee visit to Tyneside in July 1977.
This filim, first shown in February 1978, observes the preparations for the show and explores the reasons why the story of HMS Kelly remains a legend on Tyneside.
'It brought back memories both sad and warm - they were rough times but unforgettable. In the jaundiced 70s it's a rare event to and a pop composer stirring patriotic feelings, but I bet there won't be a dry eye in many houses tomorrow evening.' The late Lord Louis Mountbatten in an interview with the Daily Express.
