The Climb Up to Hell
More than twenty men have fallen to their death, or been frozen to death, on the north face of the Eiger - 13,000 feet of vertical, crumbling limestone in the Swiss Alps.
This month four British climbers are to attempt a new route - the ultimate route - up this infamous wall. Why should men want to venture into a cold, white, silent Hell, a place which has been the stage for human drama - for heroism, for cowardice, for ultimate endurance, and even for alleged murder?
