Chronicle: The Treasures from the Sacred Well

on BBC Two England

Introduced by Magnus Magnusson
With Dr Eric Thompson and Norman Scott

Into this pool they had the custom to throw live men in times of drought... if this land has had gold in it, it is in this pool that most of it would be (Bishop Diego de Landa, c 1560 AD)
The words of the first bishop of Yucatan have attracted many to the Sacred Well at Chichen Itza - the great Maya city which now lies in ruins in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico.
Tonight Chronicle comes from the City Museum in Birmingham, where finds from the Sacred Well are on display - flown specially to Britain for the first time.
