Weather followed by Into Orbis
Forty-two million people are blind and millions more have diseases which can lead to blindness. But Orbis, a converted jet, manned by volunteer surgeons and nurses, is one response to this terrible problem.
The programme joins this 'Flying MASH' team in Bangladesh, and follows them as they share their skills with local doctors, often learning from their hosts as well. Then, this medical circus flies on to Thailand, Nepal and Iraq. In much of the world, the blind rate a very low place in a nation's priorities. So, often the mere arrival of the shining white eye-hospital attracts the interests of national rulers. Orbis changes attitudes.
