For the Boys

on BBC One London

Drama starring
Bette Midler
James Caan
For over two decades,
Eddie Sparks and Dixie Leonard had been America's premiere entertainers. The comic couple are about to be honoured on a live TV show when Dixie refuses to attend. As she reveals to the young man sent to fetch her, the public face of her teaming with Eddie masked the pleasure and pain of an intensely pressured relationship. It started when they first met in London in 1942, and dogged their highly successful careers entertaining the troops through three wars.
Director Mark Rydell (1991, 15)
