Not necessarily the greatest, nor necessarily the most popular, these paintings are all among the world's masterpieces.
This week's theme: Gardens Monet (1840-1926)
Women in the Garden (The Louvre, Paris)
When Monet began painting landscapes entirely out-of-doors, he was considered eccentric. A painter was expected to work in a studio, where he could employ his skills to improve on nature, rectifying what God had left imperfect. But Women in the Garden is among the loveliest of his early outdoor scenes.
