The bodies of the Clutter family have been discovered and Detective Alvi Dewey can find no clues as to the identity of the killers. Dick Hickock and Perry Smith escape to Mexico, only returning to the USA when their money runs out. Dewey finally makes a breakthrough when Hickock's former cellmate tells him about the money in Herb Clutter's home safe.
