Hard-drinking Hank Williams was a prolific writer of songs reflecting life in the rowdy "honky tonk" bars of the Texan oilfields in the 1950s. The advent of pop saw this rough-and-ready music give way to the sweeter Nashville sound - however, the debt to Williams as the composer of many classics of the genre is clear.
