Paul Burnett introduces a bonanza of beauty, live from Blackpool, where 30 of the most beautiful girls from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland compete for the title of Miss United Kingdom 1979
First, from the Lake District Ray Moore introduces all the girls in the grounds of the glorious Rydal Mount, once the home of William Wordsworth and his family.
Then, in the Norbreck Castle Hotel, the 12 semi-finalists parade first in swimsuits and again in formal gowns to be assessed on beauty, personality and figure for a first prize of £7,500 plus automatic entry to the Miss World contest in November.
Finally, the seven finalists are interviewed by Jan Leeming to help the panel of celebrity judges come to a decision. Music by the BBC NORTHERN RADIO ORCHESTRA conducted by PHIL TATE
