A Cambridge biologist was catapulted to scientific notoriety with his book, A New Science of Life. Condemned as heresy, Sheldrake's offence was to challenge the theoretical core of modern genetics - that life can be explained by DNA - and to propose a theory based on what he called morphic resonance.
