'We've nothing against Tom, Dick and Harry, as long as they don't come here...'
Here is the island of Sylt where the beautiful and rich of West German society gather. It's the holiday setting for anyone who can pay £20 for a bottle of champagne and can enter a club with a pretty girl on his arm. Wealth and beauty make the happy people of Sylt.

In the village of Oberreutte, in Bavaria, it's just the daily routine that makes people happy. There are barely a thousand of them-they are farmers and traditional craftsmen, whose way of life has not yet been disrupted by the 20th century.

Two leading West German television reporters look at two aspects of life in their country in election year.
