A series in six parts 2:The Nile
Brian Thompson sits in a wind-blown tent in Juba, deep in the heart of Sudan. A local magician predicts a journey by boat. Outside his front door runs the longest river in the world - the Nile. His journey takes him across the eerie emptiness of the Sudd - a quarter of a million square miles of floating swamp.
From the simple cabins of the mail packet Kerbekan to the comfort and antics of a fancy dress party on board a luxurious floating hotel. By bus across a seemingly infinite desert to the splendour of Luxor and Karnak where once the streets were paved with gold. Written and presented by BRIAN THOMPSON
