Sir Thomas Beecham made his classic recording of Mozart's The Magic Flute in 1937-38 with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and an enviable cast that included Tiana
Lemnitz as Pamina, Erna Berger as the Queen of the Night, and Gerhard Husch as Papageno. There are now four widely differing transfers available from EMI, Pearl, Nimbus and Dutton Laboratories. Robert
Cowan compares them and ends with an extended excerpt from his preferred remastering.
