The Film Club: Stanley Kubrick

on BBC Two England

Film director Terence Davies introduces the epic space adventure
2001: A Space Odyssey starring Keir Dullea Gary Lockwood. At the dawn of mankind, a tribe of apes discovers a mysterious monolith. Four million years later, a similar object is found on the moon, beaming signals to Jupiter. A nine-month voyage to follow the signals is launched, with two astronauts manning a huge spaceship and three others in a state of hibernation. Out of the range of mission control, the crew is disturbed to discover Hal, the ship's computer, has a mind of its own ... Concluding the season of his films, Kubrick's dazzling vision of the future is astounding in both its philosophical speculation and visual design. It will be shown in its original wide-screen format.
