Serbian Epics
What are the roots of the extreme nationalism that has torn apart the former Yugoslavia? Paul Pawlikowski 's film is remarkable document of life behind Serbian lines in Bosnia. It highlights the dangerous power of nationalist myths, and in particular the controversial revival of Serbia's ancient epics by the Bosnian Serb leader RadovanKaradzic.
Since its first broadcast just over a year ago, the film has gone on to win awards at festivals in Florence and Marseilles and been widely shown under the aegis of Human Rights Watch. In November it was screened at the Sarajevo Film Festival.
