Horizon

on BBC Two England

Playing at Noah
The Javan rhino of Indonesia could be extinct within 30 years. Zoos think they should capture the rhinos in order to breed them in captivity - and the test tube. It is part of the hi-tech approach to build 'frozen zoos' - using techniques such as in-vitro fertilisation, surrogate parents and embryo splitting to keep animals 'alive' until the 22nd century when biologists predict there will be enough space for them to return.
Horizon follows the quest of Dr Ulysses S Seal , a charismatic evangelist in the conservation world, who persuades governments to let his scientists remove animals or their embryos from the wild to come aboard his
'technological ark' of species. Written and produced by Robert Thirkell Series editor Jana Bennett
