May: the Peasant Farmer The countryside of the Lot Valley, south east of the Dordogne, is beautiful but the land is very poor.
Robert Cagnac is a smallholder with 72 sheep and seven acres on which he grows maize and tobacco for snuff. He and his wife hardly make enough money to live on, so they've converted their front room into a farm restaurant. In the late spring, the Cagnacs spend their time planting and sheep rearing.
