Wheelbase: Twin Rotor from the Rhine

on BBC Two England

Gordon Wilkins covers the world of motoring

Among a dozen new cars unveiled at the opening of the Frankfurt Motor Show yesterday was the NSU Ro 80-a four-door sports saloon driven by the twin rotor Wankel engine. With the twin rotor Cosmo about to go into production in Japan, is rotary combustion now closer to taking over from the piston engine? Does this revolution under the bonnet already outdate the new models from Ford, Opel, and Rootes introduced this week at the world's biggest Motor Show? Wheelbase reports direct from West Germany.
