Sir Alan Cobham , on his return from his great trail-blazing flight from Croydon to Cape Town and back.
Altogether his primitive single-engine bi-plane flew some 8,000 miles, taking the first aerial pictures of the pyramids, crossing vast tracts of unexplored jungle, and nearly crashing into the Victoria Falls.
